Baa Atoll features the only UNESCO biosphere reserve in the Maldives.
Hosted by six amazing resorts, the first ever Baa Atoll Summer Festival is set to be held this July. The festival was officially announced during an event held on may 9th at Soneva Fushi’s sand bank for thus very purpose.
The festival is set to start at 20th July and running till 3rd August, the “Baa Atoll Festival 2018” offers guests from the six resorts to experience the varied cuisines at the restaurants across the resorts. With menus ranging from $120++, guests can experience fine dining for a two-week period. Exclusive dining experiences and special menus are to be witnessed.
Through the event the resorts will offer a calendar of activities- including watersports, underwater adventures and many more. The festival will conclude with a Catamaran Regatta competition by the participating resort teams at Baa Atoll.
The six resorts joined in a press statement claiming that the event aims to increase the tourist arrivals and exposing the facilities and services at the Baa Atoll. The event is also endorsed by Maldives Association of Travel Agent and Tour Operators (MATATO).
“The Baa Atoll Festival is a brilliant concept and opportunity, and hopefully becomes an annual event that resorts and guests look forward to. And I hope this festival will be marketed to tourists around the world through all these resorts PR channels,” said Abdulla Ghiyas, President of MATATO.
“The aim to attract more visitors to the Maldives requires a focus on positioning and promoting Maldives as a destination. A country like the Maldives could be open to marketing ideas from other top tourist destinations,” suggested Mark Hehir, General Manager, Amilla Fushi and Finolhu, speaking with the media prior to the event held to officially announce the festival.
Baa Atoll features the only UNESCO biosphere reserve in the Maldives. The atolls’ waters are prime home for a large number of mantas and whale sharks. The most stunning coral formations are also found in these lagoons- making the festival even more interesting.
