Change of monsoons, but still all bright and sunny!
Visiting to the Maldives in May? Check the weather before you decide where to stay!
The Maldives has a tropical weather. Most of the year is all sunshine and calm seas with moderate rains in between. Two monsoons are experienced through each year. The sunny monsoon lasts from August to December, while from May to July it’s the rainy season. The rainy season doesn’t get worse until July, few thunderstorms and rough seas are expected then.
As far as May, the weather seems to be pretty good. The highest day temperature is expected to be 30°C and the nights will have a warm temperature of average 26°C.
An average12 hours of daylight is expected with 8-9 hours of sunlight. The days are expected to be very hot and humid so I prefer carrying a water bottle around as you don’t want to get dehydrated. The sea temperature doesn’t exceed 30°C and is expected to be just perfect to dip in.
Moderate rains are expected so you might regret not bringing your rain clothes. During the month 15 days are expected to have some showers of rain and a total of 211 mm of rain is expected. The seas are to be calm and cool during May, although the southern atolls might experience rough seas and thunder storms.
Sunrises and sunsets are one of the most amazing experiences any guest could get in the Maldives. So better not miss a single one. Sunrises around 0600 hours during may in the Maldives and is to be expected to set around 1810 hours. So make plans to not miss a rise or a set of the sun.
The monsoon might be affecting the sunny weather but it’s mostly sunny around the Maldives throughout May!
If you are travelling to the Maldives during May and haven’t yet decided where to stay, I would suggest to choose northern atolls over central and southern ones due to the weather. As the northern atolls expect more sunshine and has a good overall climate.
Choose wisely, pack smartly and enjoy your stay to the fullest!
